Pink Lotus Waving - Allerton Garden, Koloa Hawaii
Located on the South Shore of Kaua’i, Allerton Garden is a paradise transformed through time by the hands of a Hawaiian Queen, a sugar plantation magnate, and most significantly by an artist and an architect, John Allerton. Repeatedly destroyed by tsunami and hurricanes, the lotus pond was restored by Allerton in the 1970s by replanting lotus seeds from Japan. The Pink Lotus, also known as the Sacred Lotus or Indian Lotus, is the national flower of India. After a vibrant bloom, this lotus is waving in the breeze.
Hanakapi’ai Stream - Kalalau Trail, Kauai, Hawaii
At the end of the road on the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii is the starting point of the Napali Coast and Kalalau Trail, which has been called one of the most beautiful, and dangerous, hikes in the world. The 11-mile trail is almost never level as it crosses above towering sea cliffs and through lush valleys. The trail drops to sea level at the beaches of Hanakapi’ai and Kalalau. To get to Hanakapi’ai Beach, hikers must cross the Hanakapi’ai Stream. Although calm in this photo, after heavy rain the stream can quickly swell and make the crossing treacherous.
Keoniloa Bay – Kauai, Hawaii
On the southern tip of Kauai, Hawaii, Makahuena Point faces the Keoniloa Bay. The shoreline is formed from volcanic ash, coral sands, and limestone, all being etched and reshaped by the sea. This is a view of Keoniloa Bay through a limestone formation on the shore.
Shipwreck Beach, Keoniloa Bay, Kauai, Hawaii
On the southern tip of Kauai, Makahuena Point faces the Keoniloa Bay. The shoreline extends from the black lava rock on the East end to the long golden sands of Shipwreck Beach, and ends at Makawehi Point which is a lithified sand dune popular with long pole fishermen and cliff jumpers. This is one of the more beautiful beaches in Kauai, but the strong currents make it more suitable to enjoy from the shore.
